Trends and Future Technologies of the Year 2020 and beyond…
Getting an early preview of future technologies that will hit store shelves this year at CES 2016 was a lot of fun, but the event also gave us a glimpse at some of the advanced tech that will become commonplace very soon. Although flying cars and moon cities aren’t right around the corner, there are some truly amazing technologies that sound like they were ripped from science fiction movies, and they will, before we even know it, change everyone’s lives.
Virtual Reality Will Take You Anywhere
Between the Oculus Rift, Microsoft’s Hololens, and other fantastic VR headsets launching in 2016, we’re ready to see how quickly this new medium evolves and integrates into daily life. The new generation of VR is just getting started, but it’s set to become more immersive in the near future. Facebook promises to create a VR device that will work as a “teleporter” by 2025, taking users anywhere – real or imagined – with the aid of advanced touch sensors and virtual spaces. Soon we’ll be exploring the ruins of the lost city of Atlantis, or cruising the rings of Saturn in imaginary spaceships from the comfort of home!
Body Part Printing Will be Less “Frankenstein” Than You Think
Printing off perfectly functional human bones, tissues, and other implants in a medical lab sounds like mad science, but the technology of creating 3D printed body parts is available today – and advancing rapidly. Patients worldwide have already successfully accepted functional 3D printed limbs, noses, ears, kidneys, blood vessels, and bones. In the coming years, scientists will be able use 3D printing to prevent arthritis, cure diabetes, and generate more complex replacement organs. We expect to see a Printing Lab at all major hospitals in the next decade!
Sharing The Roads With Autonomous Cars
Riding a self-driving car around town is still an intimidating thought for many motorists. Between Google, Nissan, Chevy, Audi, Tesla, and other high-tech powerhouses, self-driving cars will become the norm in the next decade. Their ease of use and proven safety records are likely to win over those skeptical buyers. With assisted parking, automated braking, and collision avoidance technology, the autonomous car is on track to becoming the biggest innovations in transportation technology.
We Will Experience the Rise of the Cyborgs
Wait, it’s not as scary as it sounds! Since wearable technology has taken off, some passionate tech enthusiasts have decided to take it to the next level by implanting tiny devices underneath their skin. These embeddable implants can have a range of functions: an NFC chip in someone’s hand may be used to unlock the user’s phone with a single touch, health-tracking implant could monitored all of your body’s vital stats, and a set of implanted electrodes in the back of the head could help the blind to see. We’re even seeing future technologies creep up that look surprisingly like something from a movie. The work done so far in cybernetic devices is just the tip of the iceberg. Let us hope those inventive electronic engineers learn from science fiction and avoid a world run by Skynet…
Robots and Humans Will be BFFs
In the next few years, expect to see happy and helpful robots roll into our daily lives. There’ll be robot caretakers like Sen.se’s Mother, intelligent off-roading NASA machines trekking the surface of Mars, humanoid robots like Atlas that will be able to stroll alongside you. Whether your robots are designed for serving as your household assistant, your high-tech hiking buddy, or any number of unconventional duties, you should get ready: it’s finally time to adopt a genuine robot or two into your home!
